The Department of Social and Solidarity Economy has been operating since November 2017. The Department focuses primarily on creating conditions for the development of social and solidarity economy, including social entrepreneurship and social cooperatives, developing and monitoring of the Ministry's ongoing cooperation programme with non-governmental organisations. In addition, the Department handles cases related to the area of social employment and carries out supervision over foundations for which the appointed minister in charge is the Minister of Family, Labour and Social Policy. Beginning on 1 April 2003 The Department of Public Benefit operated within the structures of the then Ministry of Economy, Labour and Social Policy. Later, it existed as the Department of Social Economy and Public Benefit in the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy and from 30 November 2017, it became the Department of Social and Solidarity Economy (DSE).
The Director of the Department is Andżelika Wardęga. The Deputy Director of the Department is Kamil Bobek.
